Turkey awards contract for Gebze metro branch line
AYGM selects Metgün İnşaat to build a 5.7 km metro branch connecting Gebze to Çayırova and an industrial zone.

Turkey’s infrastructure investment agency, AYGM, has awarded a contract to Metgün İnşaat for the construction of the Gebze – Çayırova – Birlik OSB (Industrial Zone) metro line, according to railwaygazette.com.
The new line will function as a branch of the 15.4 km Gebze – Darica metro line, which is currently under construction and scheduled to open by the end of 2026. The Darica line will serve Gebze railway station, the eastern terminus of Istanbul’s Marmaray suburban rail system.
The branch will be 5.7 km long and include three stations. Six companies submitted bids during the tender process in June. Metgün İnşaat offered the lowest bid at 27.98 billion Turkish lira.
The contract covers civil works as well as the supply and installation of all electromechanical systems. No completion date has been announced yet.
A planned second phase would extend the line to Istanbul’s second airport, Sabiha Gökçen, further integrating the region’s transport network.
