The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has appointed AtkinsRéalis to support the operation and expansion of the Riyadh Metro network, according to railwaygazette.com.

Engineering services and supervision contracts were signed during the Saudi-Canadian Investment Forum on July 9. They form part of a broader infrastructure investment programme which also covers the development of ring roads and major arterial routes across the capital. The financial value and exact duration of the contracts were not disclosed.

The Riyadh metro opened in phases from December 2024, and today the capital has the longest driverless metro network, formed of six lines totalling 176 km which serve 85 stations. The most recent addition was the Western Station on the Orange line, which was opened in May 2026 as an infill project.

AtkinsRéalis had previously delivered programme management and supervision services for system operations.

The signing of the latest contracts coincided with a diplomatic visit by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah to reinforce international collaboration.
